Summary
Stencilbar is made by Sean Kegel. I do not collect data about how you use the app. Your Prompts stay on your Mac. A few other companies handle data when you visit this website, download the app or buy a License. This page describes that processing and how to contact me. Sean Kegel, in Ohio, United States, is responsible for the personal data I handle. Contact support@stencilbar.com.
The App
- Stencilbar has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no account.
- Your Prompts, your recent history and your settings are files on your Mac. The app does not send them anywhere. If you keep your Library in a synced folder, such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox, that service handles the files under its own policy.
- The accepted Terms version and acceptance date are stored locally in your settings. This record is not sent to me.
- The Trial is counted on your Mac. It needs no email address and no registration.
- When you activate a License, the app sends your License key and a name for your Mac to Lemon Squeezy, to confirm that the key is valid. The request also exposes your IP address and ordinary connection metadata to Lemon Squeezy. Your Prompt contents and recent history are not included in the activation request.
- Unless you turn it off in Settings, the app asks GitHub once a day for the number of the latest release, to tell you when an update is available. The request exposes your IP address and ordinary connection metadata, such as the User-Agent, to GitHub. It does not include your Prompts, your License key or anything else about you or your Mac. To stop it, turn off Check for updates in Settings.
This Website
The website code loads no analytics or third-party scripts and does not set cookies. Cloudflare may process technical information to deliver and secure the site. A separate Lemon Squeezy checkout is governed by its own privacy and cookie information.
Cloudflare hosts the website. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and basic request details, such as your browser type, to deliver pages and to protect the site. See the Cloudflare privacy policy.
Cloudflare gives me aggregate traffic statistics, such as page counts and visitor countries. They do not identify you.
The app download is served by GitHub, which processes your IP address when you download the file. See the GitHub privacy statement.
Purchases
Lemon Squeezy sells Stencilbar as the merchant of record. At checkout it collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details, and it handles them under the Lemon Squeezy privacy policy. I never see your full card details.
Lemon Squeezy shares your order details with me: your name, your email address, your country, what you bought and your License key. I use them to provide and support your License, handle refunds and disputes, prevent License misuse, and meet accounting and legal obligations. You need to provide the checkout information Lemon Squeezy requires to complete a purchase; a License key is needed for activation.
If you email me, I receive your address, message and any attachments so that I can reply and handle your request. Cloudflare forwards messages sent to support@stencilbar.com to my mailbox at stencilbar@seankegel.com. Cloudflare handles forwarding, and Proton Mail hosts the receiving mailbox and processes messages to deliver and store them. See the Proton privacy policy. I do not add you to a mailing list. Please avoid sending passwords, payment card details or sensitive Prompt contents.
Sharing
I do not sell your personal data or share it for targeted advertising. Recipients include the hosting, download, payment, licensing and email providers described above. Where necessary, I may also disclose relevant records to professional accounting or legal advisers, or to authorities to comply with the law or establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Lemon Squeezy also processes purchase data for its own purposes as merchant of record, as described in its policy.
Why I Process Personal Data
Where EU or UK data protection law applies, I rely on performance of a contract for providing your License and handling contractual support and refunds; legal obligations for required accounting records and lawful disclosures; and legitimate interests for responding to inquiries, securing the service, preventing misuse and handling disputes. Those interests are running and protecting a small software business and helping its users.
How Long Data Is Kept
I keep support correspondence while it is needed to resolve your request and follow-up issues. I keep License and order records while needed to provide your License, recover purchases and resolve refunds or disputes. Required accounting records are kept for the applicable statutory period. A legal claim or legal duty may require longer retention; otherwise, records are deleted when these purposes no longer require them.
These criteria apply to records I control. Cloudflare, GitHub, Lemon Squeezy and Proton set retention periods for data they control under their own policies. Deleting local Prompt files does not delete purchase or support records.
Where Data Is Processed
I am based in the United States. When you buy a License or contact me from another country, your information may be processed in the United States and in countries where the providers described above operate. Data protection laws there may differ from those where you live. The providers’ policies describe their processing locations and transfer arrangements. Contact me for information about safeguards applicable to transfers of records I control.
Your Choices
You can ask me to access, correct or delete personal data I hold about you. Depending on the law that applies, you may also have rights to restrict processing, receive a portable copy of your data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights have legal exceptions, including required recordkeeping. Email support@stencilbar.com; I may need reasonable information to verify your identity and will respond within the time required by applicable law. For records controlled by Lemon Squeezy or another provider, you can also contact that provider directly.
If EU or UK data protection law applies, you may complain to your local data protection authority, including the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. You do not need to contact me first.
Changes to This Policy
I may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest change. If I materially change how I use personal data, I will provide notice appropriate to the change and obtain consent where the law requires it before using existing data for that purpose.
